“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” – Proverbs 13:12
This Bible verse has stuck with me ever since I was little. My brother came home from a missions trip and told us that their team leader would wake them up every morning and tell them this verse. For years I have read this verse, prayed about it, and asked God to reveal to me exactly what this means.
I finally feel that I understand it. When you have a hope, a dream, a calling, you long after it. You think about it, you ponder over it. You think about all the different ways that you could make it happen. When it doesn’t happen or you ignore it, you become distressed, sick, and are left feeling hopeless.
I have felt this way. I have ignored God’s call time and again. Why? I’ve asked myself that many times. Deep down I know why though.
A lack of confidence.
I have felt that I’m not good enough, others are better than me, there’s no way that it could ever possibly work. Even when I continually tell myself that, I hear God’s still small voice ringing in my ears saying, “My daughter, you can’t do it, not on your own, allow me to CARRY you!”
Wow! God. The Creator of the universe. He will carry me?
I decided to listen. I decided to let go and let God. Not me, not on my own will, but His. I understand Proverbs 13:12 and what God is saying. When we ignore when He is calling us to do, what He has placed on our hearts, we become sick. But when we choose to dive in and listen, the joy is unspeakable! That longing becomes fulfilled and we are filled with life! Life to be lived to the fullest.
So, here I am. Stepping out in faith and diving in. I’m following God’s call and pursuing my lifelong passion — photography.
It won’t be easy, but God never said it will be. It will all certainly be worth it though!
I hope to have you join me as I follow this exciting new journey. I have a long road ahead, but I won’t be walking it alone. God will be carrying me!
